PJCD partners with DOST-PCHRD to expand access to chest health research

The Philippine Journal of Chest Diseases (PJCD) partnered with Department of Science and Technology – Philippine Council for Health Research and Development (DOST-PCHRD) to make its research publications accessible through  the Health Research and Development Information Network (HERDIN), the country’s national health research repository.

The partnership was led by the PJCD Editor-in-Chief, Dr. Miriam Lalas, as part of a broader initiative to   enhance the journal’s reach and relevance.  “HERDIN is easy to use and can also serve as an alternative repository for the PJCD’s publications,” said Dr. Lalas, emphasizing the platform’s potential to widen access to the journal’s  research outputs.

To kick off the integration, PJCD’s editorial board actively participated in  orientation and training activities organized by DOST-PCHRD. These included an online HERDIN Orientation held on 15 October 2025 and a face-to-face HERDIN Research Camp conducted at the Philippine College of Chest Physicians (PCCP) office in Quezon City on 17 October 2025. Through these sessions, the PJCD gained hands-on experience in uploading and managing  journal articles within HERDIN , ensuring compliance with the system’s indexing and metadata standards.

Dr. Albert Albay, Chair of the PCCP  Publications Committee, expressed enthusiasm for the collaboration, “We are really looking forward to increased access to our journal, and HERDIN is one of the tangible ways to achieve that goal.”

DOST-PCHRD Executive Director Dr. Jaime C. Montoya also highlighted the importance of expanding partnerships  within the health research community. “I believe that expanding our network strengthens our collective efforts to build a more connected and data-driven health research ecosystem,” he said.

This partnership between PJCD and the Council reflects  a shared vision of promoting access to health research and development efforts and strengthening the country’s scientific information network. With PJCD’s inclusion in HERDIN, more pulmonary research by Filipinos will be visible, accessible, and impactful.
