MD-PhD Colloquium Highlights Local Health Research Innovations

The MD-PhD (Molecular Medicine) Program of the University of the Philippines Manila, in partnership with the Department of Science and Technology–Philippine Council for Health Research and Development (DOST-PCHRD), successfully held the MD-PhD Colloquium on May 5–6, 2022. The two-day event showcased significant research contributions of MD-PhD graduates and scholars aimed at addressing pressing national and global health concerns.

The colloquium featured a series of symposia covering topics such as COVID-19 diagnostics and therapies, infectious diseases, immunology, genetics, and neurological disorders. Distinguished physician-scientists presented studies on malaria detection, serologic testing, convalescent plasma therapy, herbal adjunct treatments for COVID-19, and long-term consequences of the disease, among others. Each session concluded with open forums that encouraged scientific discussion and knowledge exchange.

The event also included an awarding ceremony, recognition of MD-PhD graduates, and an invitation to prospective scholars to join the MD-PhD in Molecular Medicine Program. Organized as part of DOST-PCHRD’s 40th founding anniversary, the colloquium underscored the continuing commitment of both institutions to strengthen the country’s health research capacity and to nurture world-class physician-scientists in the Philippines.
