DOST-PCHRD accepts 3 new PhD in Health Research scholars

The Philippine Council of Health Research and Development (DOST – PCHRD), in collaboration with the University of Santo Tomas (UST), has formally accepted three new scholars to the Doctor in Health Research program. This partnership, through the program, provides an alternative track to acquiring a doctorate degree, providing foundational course work focused on health research.
A significant number of candidates expressed interest in the program, but only a select few were admitted. Among the chosen scholars are Mr. Efren II C. Deocades, Dr. Emmerson Gale S. Vista, and Dr. Evan Glenn S. Vista. Over the course of the three-year program, they will develop advanced skills in research writing, implementation, publication, and presentation.
On September 3, 2025, an orientation meeting was held to discuss the obligations under the scholarship program. This program provides support, which includes full coverage of school fees, monthly stipend, learning materials and/or connectivity allowance, transportation allowance, group personal accident insurance, and dissertation grant.
The scholars are expected to play a key role in strengthening health research in the Philippines using the advanced knowledge and research expertise they will gain from the program. Their research will help address gaps in health, drive innovation in the health sector, and promote the advancement of health science in the Philippines.
