THE PROBLEM
Mental health care in the Philippines remains largely concentrated in public specialist facilities, primarily psychiatric hospitals and general hospitals with psychiatric units. Psychosocial interventions are already part of mental health services; however, prior to this study, no local in-depth assessment in tertiary hospitals had been undertaken.
THE SOLUTION

The Cardinal Santos Medical Center (CSMC), in collaboration with partner hospitals throughout the country, extensively studied the psychosocial interventions used by mental health professionals for in-patients of tertiary hospitals referred for psychosocial problems. The findings can serve as evidence-based data for developing standardized psychosocial care protocols, enhancing provider training, and integrating digital health technologies such as telepsychology platforms, mobile psychoeducation tools, and electronic health records for improved case management.
The key technology output of this initiative is the development of the booklets which serves as a comprehensive guide to psychosocial intervention practice and provides a list of community resources that may be utilized for aftercare by patients discharged from tertiary hospitals with continuing psychosocial problems. The developed booklets have been formally registered and are protected by copyright under the National Library of the Philippines.
