CALLS AND EVENTS
CALL FOR APPLICATIONS: Foreign Graduate Scholarship Program Postdoctoral Fellowship Program
The Department of Science and Technology–Philippine Council for Health Research and Development (DOST-PCHRD), in collaboration with the University of Toronto (U of T) Temerty Faculty of Medicine, offers a Postdoctoral Fellowship Program focused on Metabolic Dysfunction-Associated Steatotic Liver Disease (MASLD). The program reflects the institutions’ shared commitment to advancing global health research and strengthening research capacity through international collaboration and training.
The fellowship is part of the collaborative MASLD research project led by Dr. Herbert Gaisano at the University of Toronto. The project utilizes precision-cut human liver slices from bariatric surgery to investigate the mechanisms underlying MASLD and to assess the effects of diabetes therapeutics such as GLP-1 receptor agonists and SGLT2 inhibitors. It will also explore how MASLD manifests in the Philippine context.
Through this program, early-career scientists with recent MD-PhD or PhD degrees will have the opportunity to train in a research-intensive environment abroad for one (1) year. The fellowship aims to strengthen research expertise and support the development of future leaders in health research.
The program also seeks to contribute to the development of a pool of researchers with advanced knowledge and technical expertise in MASLD and related fields, who will help strengthen collaborative initiatives such as the Philippine Liver Research Network.
