MAHLAP SCHOLARSHIP

PROJECT FOR A MASTER'S DEGREE IN LIBRARY SCIENCE

Qualifications of Candidate/s:

  1. He/She must be a Filipino citizen;
  2. He/She must be a regular and active member of MAHLAP;
  3. He/She must be a graduate of a bachelor's degree in any field; preferably in Library Science;
  4. He/She must be a registered Librarian;
  5. He/She must be presently working in a medical/health library/information center.

Rules and Regulations Governing the Scholarship Project:

  1. The recipient must enroll in any government-subsidized college or university;
  2. He/she must take the maximum number of units allowed for a part-time/full-time student;
  3. He/she must maintain an average grade of 1.75 and no grade below 2.00 in any of the subjects taken;
  4. He/she must promptly submit, within 15 days after enrolment, a copy of his/her matriculation papers and, at the end of the semester, his/her individual subject ratings. The recipient must also provide the Board a full description of the course curriculum or program of study and must report any changes in the curriculum/program of study. He/she must submit other reports that may be required by the Board from time to time.
  5. Deferment of enrolment may be allowed for one semester only under the following reasons:
    1. Poor health as certified by a physician;
    2. Recipient is on maternity leave;
    3. Serious personal problem/s that may adversely affect his/her studies to be determined by the Board.
  6. The recipient, after deferment of enrolment for one semester, must submit- a formal written request to the Board for reinstatement of scholarship privileges;
  7. Failure to enroll in the next semester after deferment would disqualify the recipient who will be required, as in the case of withdrawal from the scholarship project, to reimburse 75% of the total expenses incurred in the duration of his/her scholarship.
  8. The recipient shall neither change nor drop any subject without the approval of the Board;
  9. Scholarship privileges shall be suspended if the recipient receives an "INC." grade in any subject at the end of the semester. He/she shall be reimbursed of the expenses covered by the scholarship upon submission of proof of completion of grades;
  10. The recipient shall choose a thesis topic that should be relevant to the development of medical/health libraries and that must contribute to the inevitable progress of medical/health librarianship. This must be presented to the Board for approval;
  11. After completion of the scholarship program, the recipient must, within 30 days, submit a final written report on his/her program study together with a copy of his/her thesis;
  12. He/she should sign a contract with MAHLAP;
  13. Tuition and other fees shall be paid directly to the university upon receipt of their bill. If the recipient pays for his/her own tuition and other fees, he/she shall be reimbursed upon presentation of the corresponding official receipts of the university;
  14. Book allowance shall be paid upon presentation of receipts/invoices, and a certification that the books are needed.
