The 3-Minute Pitch to Policymakers Contest is the very first attempt of the Council to cultivate researchers’ presentation and communication skills to policymakers through a competition.  In three minutes, the participants should be able to introduce themselves, state health research problem, present their proposed solution and its value proposition, and offered a call-to-action in front of a distinguished panel of judges.

Philippine National Health Research System (PNHRS) Research Utilization Committee Chair Dr. Cecilia Acuin, UP National Institutes of Health (NIH) Executive Director Dr. Eva Maria Cutiongco – De la Paz, National Economic Development Authority (NEDA) Chief Economic Development Specialist Ms. Arlene Ruiz, Philippine Heart Center Management Services Office Acting Head Dr. Peter San Diego Jr., and Department of Health (DOH) Health Research Division Medical Officer IV Dr. Gloria Nenita Velasco rated the participants’ performance based on comprehension, communication style, and engagement.

Second place and People’s Choice Award was given to Mr. Ryan Labana of the Metro Manila Health Research and Development Consortium (MMHRDC) and 3rd place was won by Dr. Supachai Basit of the Health Research and Development Consortium Region IV-A.

Stressing the importance of effective communication in her closing remarks, Dr. Acuin said, “Policy-makers require accurate and timely evidence to assess complex issues. Because of this, researchers must be able to learn how to effectively communicate research evidence to influence the policy-making process in a limited time.”
